Jamian Juliano-Villani’s 1-800-SPANKME consists of a fully functional X-Acto electric pencil sharpener. The piece was modified so that as soon as someone starts sharpening a pencil the machine will also play the introductory audio of the call line of the piece’s name. See video for an earlier test example. Brooklyn Research worked with the artist in developing the piece and sourcing components. Brooklyn Research handled the electromechanical sensing, audio programming, audio amplification, and internal modifications.
