Brooklyn Research worked with artist Ivana Bašić on two of her pieces, A thousand years ago ten seconds of breath were 40 grams of dust #1 and #2, for her show Through the Hum of Black Velvet Sleep. Both sculptures were nearly identical. Based on the designs of the artist, Brooklyn Research designed the electrical control system and fabricated the kinetic sculptures. Both sculptures had two malleted solenoids hitting an alabaster stone in synchronicity. The mallets would hit the stone about once a second for the duration of the install, slowly chipping away at the stone’s form.
